Funeral services for Gerda D. O'Dey, age 83 of Norfolk, will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 10, 2012, at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk. John Petersen will officiate, with burial in the Prospect Hill Cemetery in Norfolk.
Visitation will be Thursday, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., at Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in Norfolk.
Gerda died Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at Faith Regional Health Services in Norfolk.
Gerda (Daub) O’Dey, daughter of Adam and Gesina Daub, was born August 21, 1928, at Ludwigshafen on The Rhine, Germany. While living in Germany, Gerda belonged to the Rhinehold bowling team and Mother’s Singers. In August of 1949, she was married to Rudy Nuttelman in Germany. In December of 1949, Gerda and Rudy came to America and made their home in Norfolk, Nebraska, where son, Peter Rudy, was born. On February 10, 1952, Gerda was married to Gary Bishop O’Dey, and Gary adopted Gerda’s son.
Gerda worked for the Norfolk Telephone Company for 17 years, before retiring. She was the author of the book, “Legacy of Lies and Love”, which was a true story that described her life in the years between 1933 and 1945.
She is survived by her grandsons, Gary H. O’Dey and Steven J. O’Dey; and a daughter-in-law, Lorena K. O’Dey.
Gerda was preceded in death by her parents, Adam and Gesina; son, Peter R. O’Dey on August 1, 1999; and husband, Gary Bishop O’Dey on July 10, 2005.
