Memorial services for Danny P. Poppe, age 55 of Niobrara, Nebraska, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 5, 2013, at the Niobrara Lutheran Church in Niobrara, Nebraska, with the Reverend Beverly Rautenberg-Panko officiating.

Danny died Thursday, September 26, 2013, at Alpine Village in Verdigre, Nebraska.

Daniel Paul “Danny” Poppe, son of Melvin and Shirley (Berner) Poppe, was born May 7, 1958, at Pierre, South Dakota. Danny was baptized on May 8, 1960, by the Reverend D. L. Gesterling at the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Harold, South Dakota. His sponsors were Ervin and Lillian (Poppe) Broders. Danny was then confirmed on March 31, 1974, by the Reverend Walter J. Rossbach at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Randolph, Nebraska.

Danny attended all 12 years of school at Randolph Public School, and graduated with the Class of 1977. After school, he was employed as maintenance personnel at the Norfolk Community College in Norfolk, Nebraska. In 1984, Danny moved to Colorado, where he was employed at Auto Sport Body Shop and Miller-Coors in Golden, Colorado. In 2002, Danny decided he had enough of city life and moved back to Nebraska with his parents in Niobrara.

Danny was a man of many skills: he was a self-taught carpenter, electrician, plumber, painter, and mechanic. His favorite hobbies included reading, landscaping, gardening, woodworking, grilling, fishing, and playing horseshoes with his Dad and brothers, as well as watching the Husker football games.

Danny is survived by his parents, Melvin and Shirley Poppe of Niobrara, Nebraska; sisters, Sharon Wilson of Niobrara (her children, Chelsea, Sara, and Trevor), Shelly (husband Scott) Smith of Lakewood, Colorado (their children, Luke and Kali), and Janet (husband Scott) Stratton of Malcom, Nebraska (their daughter, Emma); and brothers, Dennis (wife Karen) Poppe of Thronton, Colorado, Lyle Poppe of Lincoln, Nebraska (his son, Dillon), Larry (wife Wendy) Poppe of Lincoln (their children, Shasta, Mandy, and Joshua), and Joedy (wife Patti) Poppe of Sioux Falls, South Dakota (their children, Kiah, Keenan, and Maren).

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Forest Berner, and Herman and Gertrude Poppe; and a brother, Dale Wade Poppe.

Danny will be missed by his many family members and friends.
