Staff members of Brockhaus Funeral Home are caring and experienced professionals who understand that each family is unique and has personal requests and traditions. These requests and traditions are of utmost importance to our staff of licensed funeral directors.





Greg Brockhaus

Greg was born in Omaha, Nebraska and was raised in Creighton.  He graduated from Creighton High School with the class of 1991.  He then attended Briar Cliff University from 1991 to 1993.  After this he started a Co-Apprenticeship with Reichmuth Funeral Home in Elkorn and Valley, finishing with Brockhaus Funeral Home.  In 1994 Greg attended Commonwealth Institute of Mortuary Science in Houston, Texas, graduating with honors and distinction in 1995.  He has been employed with Brockhaus Funeral Home since 1993.

In 1995 Greg married Heather Hoile, a Norfolk native, in Houston, Texas.  They have three children: Makayla, Brady, and Braxton.  Greg is the District 3 President of the Nebraska Funeral Director’s Association, and MEPA- The Nebraska Mortuary Disaster Team, and on the Greenwood Cemetery Board.  In his free time Greg enjoys golfing and attending his children’s sporting events.



Joe Brockhaus

Joe was born and raised in Creighton, Nebraska and attended St. Ludger Catholic Elementary School  through 6th grade, and graduated from Creighton High School.  He attended Bellevue University before earning  his Mortuary Science Degree from Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas, graduating with honors and distinction in 2002.  He was also inducted into the National Funeral Service Honor Society.

Joe lived in Creighton, Nebraska until moving to Norfolk, Nebraska in 2011 with his wife Tonia and three children: Lydia, Will, and Charles.

Joe is a member of Sacred Heart Parish of Norfolk, Nebraska, Norfolk Noon Kiwanis Club and Norfolk Knights of Columbus, Nebraska Funeral Director’s Association, National Funeral Director’s Association, and Norfolk Area Rod and Custom Car Club.



Tray Van Metre

Tray was born and raised in Vinton, Louisiana graduating from Vinton High School in 1976. He attended Commonwealth College of Sciences in Houston, Texas graduating in 1978. He served his apprenticeship with Hixson Funeral Service in Lake Charles, Louisiana and became licensed in 1979. In 1980 Tray joined the staff of Forest Park Lawndale Funeral Home in Houston, Texas as a Funeral Director and in 1987 became Manager of the Funeral Home. In 1997 Tray became associated with Brockhaus Funeral Homes.

Tray and his wife Deb live in Bloomfield, Ne. and have five children: Anastasia and her husband Jason Ratner, Natasha, Joseph, Samuel, Grace and granddaughter Tatiana. They are members of St. Andrew's Catholic Church in Bloomfield.

Tray is a member of the National Funeral Directors Association, District 3 Vice President of the Nebraska Funeral Directors Association, Parish Council of St. Andrew's Catholic Church, St. Ludger Elementary School Board in Creighton and Greenwood Cemetery Board in Creighton.



Dave Rudloff

Dave was born in Creighton NE and was raised in Verdigre, NE.  He graduated from Verdigre High School with the class of 1984.  After high school, he worked on the family farm and Jedlicka’s Hardware Hank for several years.  He then decided to attend Northeast Community College and then earned a degree in Mortuary Science from Arapahoe Community College in Littleton, Colorado in 2002.Dave served his apprenticeship with Brockhaus Funeral Homes and received his Funeral Directors License in 2003.

Dave has served on the Verdigre Rescue squad for 14 years.  He is a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, the Nebraska Funeral Director’s Association, and the National Funeral Director’s Association.



Charles Harlan- Licensed Funeral Director

Charlie was born in Harlan, Iowa and was raised in Washington D.C., Ewing, Nebraska, and graduated from Tilden High School.  He attended Norfolk Junior College and graduated from the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.  Following a tour of duty in the Army, in the 82nd Airborne Division, he returned home and served his apprenticeship under Dean Marshall.  In 1963 he became employed at the Swanson Golden Mortuary in Omaha, NE.  In December of 1969 he and his wife Marilyn returned to Tilden to manage and later purchase the Marshall Mortuary.  He was very active in the community, serving on the Park Board, the Antelope Country Club, The Tilden Fire Department, Tilden Commercial Club, Tilden-Meadow Grove Lions Club, Tilden Community Hospital Board, and The Nebraska Funeral Directors Association.  In 2001, Charlie sold the funeral home to the Brockhaus family and it became known as Brockhaus-Harlan Funeral Home, and he has remained on staff.



Kyle Pospisil

Kyle was born and raised in Creighton, Nebraska and graduated from Creighton Community High School in 2009.  He graduated from Northeast Community College in May of 2012 with an Associate of Applied Science degree.  He graduated from Mortuary School in Ankeny, Iowa in October of 2013. In the fall of 2014 Kyle also obtained his Iowa Funeral Directors License to help better serve our families.   Kyle started working at Brockhaus Funeral Homes in 2009 and is looking forward to taking the next steps into the funeral directing profession.

He is a member of Christ Lutheran Church LCMS in rural Creighton.  In his free time Kyle enjoys going to the Norfolk YMCA.  He is also a member of the Creighton Men’s Bowling Association and plays in the Knox County Pool League.  In the summers he likes to golf and plays for St. Paul's slow pitch softball team in the Norfolk Church League.

Kyle is the son of Jerry and Diane Pospisil of Creighton, NE and the grandson of Lyle and the late Betty Pospisil and Frank and Esther Holecek of Creighton.  He has one sibling, Brittani a student at Creighton High School.



Larry Godel- Support Staff

Larry was born and raised in O’Neill, Nebraska and attended O’Neill High School.  Upon graduation he attended Chadron State College, obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in 1965 and a Master’s Degree in 1966.

Larry lived, taught, and coached in Cozad, NE until moving to Norfolk in 1968, where he taught History, was a golf instructor, and assistant football coach at Norfolk Jr. College.  In addition to those duties he also was assistant basketball coach, becoming head coach in 1970, and remained until 1972.  In 1973 he entered the administrative field, becoming a Division Chairman and then the Dean of Instruction and eventually Vice President of Northeast Community College.  Larry and his wife Sharon have two children Chris of Humphrey, NE, and Todd of Hampton, Virginia.  Sharon and Larry have 6 grandchildren.

Larry and his wife retired from Northeast in 2004, having a combined 66 years of service to the institution.  Larry was employed by Howser-Fillmer Mortuary in 2004 and has continued his association after the Brockhaus family bought the funeral home from Ron and Mary Jean Fillmer in 2011.



Glen Einspahr- Support Staff

Glen was born and raised in Hildreth, Nebraska and attended Hildreth High School.  He attended Kearney State College, obtaining a Bachelor’s degree in education in 1970.

Glen then moved to Creighton, Nebraska where he taught and coached at the high school from 1970 to 1973.  He then started his own business, The Rug Room, and later purchased Plainview Monument Company which he then sold in 1979.  Glen was active in the Creighton community being a member of his Church Counsel, Volunteer Fireman, J.C. member, Lions Club member, and also the Chamber of Commerce.  He also assisted Gerry Brockhaus at the Brockhaus Funeral Home in Creighton.  In 1982 he was hired by the USDA/NRCS and worked out of the Neligh, Nebraska Office until his retirement in 2009.

Glen has three children; Dawn Stubben of Creighton, NE, Dodi Craft of Oceanside, CA, and Del Einspahr of Elkhorn, NE.  He married his wife, Jan in 1991, gaining a step-son, Adam Remmich of Norfolk, NE.  Between Glen and Jan, they have 12 grandchildren.

Glen currently serves on the YMCA Board of Directors and is actively involved with The Link Half-Way House here in Norfolk.  Glen was employed by Brockhaus-Howser-Fillmer Funeral Home in April of 2011.



MaryJean Fillmer

MaryJean  (Armbruster) Fillmer was born in O’Neill, NE.  At three years of age her parents  moved  to Norfolk, NE.  For her father to manage the J.M. McDonald Co.  She was raised in Norfolk, NE.

She attended Norfolk Catholic Grade & High School in Norfolk.   She continues to be a member of Sacred Heart Parish.   In l963 she attended one year at Mount Marty College, in  Yankton. S.D

In l963-1964 when Vulcraft  joined the City of Norfolk,  she  was the 3rdSecretary  hired in l964.  After several enjoyable years with the company, she moved on to First National Bank of Norfolk as Teller and Loan Clerk.  After several  enjoyable  years at the bank, she became employed as a receptionist for Dr. O.J. Wullschleger’s  medical practice.

 In l984 she married Ronald R. Fillmer Co-Owner of Howser Fillmer Mortuary.

In November l997 Ron & MaryJean purchased the Howser- Fillmer Mortuary as sole owners, continuing to dedicate their lives to the business.  On March 1, 2011 due to Health reasons, Ron sold the business to Brockhaus Funeral Homes.   Ron died  September 2011.   Since Ron’s death, MaryJean has been employed with the Brockhaus Family.

MaryJean continues her hobbies of Golf and The Lake Home.



Duane Christiansen- Support Staff

Duane was born in Plainview and spent his childhood on a farm north of Plainview. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1963 and attended an Ag Short Course at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He was married on November 29, 1964. He and his wife Cheryl spent most of their married lives on a farm west of Creighton where he farmed and also worked for a major feed company in sales and management for 37 years. He retired in 2008.

Duane has been a member of the Plainview United Methodist Church for 52 years. He sings for numerous funerals and weddings. Duane and Cheryl have two sons and daughters-in-law and seven grandchildren. They reside in Plainview and has been helping Brockhaus Funeral Home since 2006.



Joe Hostert- Support Staff

Joe was born, raised and has lived his entire life in Butte, NE.  He attended Sts. Peter and Paul grade school and graduated from Butte High School in 1962.  He worked at the Butte Hatchery for six years and for 18 years for the propane company ( Murphy Gas, Northern Propane, and Ferrell Gas).  In 1987, he was elected as the Boyd County Treasurer.  He held this office until he retired in 2010.  In his retirement, Joe is now enjoying farming near Gross, NE.  He is a life-long Husker sports fan and enjoys visiting Branson, MO, listening to country music, and visiting with friends and relatives.

Joe and his wife Mary Jo, have been married for 46 years, and attend Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.  Mary Jo, who grew up in the Spencer area, has worked 39 years at the Butte Health Care Center.  They have four grown children: Mike and his wife Nicole of Butte, NE; Deb and her husband Wayne Hoge of Lincoln, NE; Bev and her husband Mitch Nelson of Creighton, NE; and Jeff and his wife Val of Atkinson, NE.  Joe has been actively involved in the Knights of Columbus, Butte Fireman, Butte FFA Alumni, and the Butte Community Club.  Joe began his employment with Brockhaus Funeral Homes in January of 2012.



Tony Wewel- Support Staff

Tony was born in Stuart, Nebraska in 1939.  He graduated from St. Joe's Academy in Atkinson, Nebraska with the class of 1957.  After this he ranched for four years and married his wife Jeanette in 1963.  He then graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1966 and got a teaching job in Creighton, Nebraska which he held for six years.  After this he went to work for Land O' Lakes for 15 years and worked as a Regional Sales Manager.  He then went to work for Internation Multi Foods for another 15 years, and now drives bus part time for Navigator.

Tony and his wife Jeanette have five children: Van, Mark, Patty, Jenny, and John.  They also have 13 grandchildren.  He has been working for Brockhaus Funeral Homes since 2000.  



Marvin Theis- Support Staff

Marvin Theis was born in Plainview, Nebraska.  He graduated from Plainview High School in 1955.  He then farmed with his father in Eden Valley until 1959 when he married Barbara Broekemeier at Osmond.  They moved to Creighton where he worked various jobs until 1976 when he started working at Creighton Area Health Services for 31 years as Maintenance Director.  Both Greg and Joe Brockhaus worked with Marv during the high school years.  Marv and Barb are the parents of two daughters: Laura and Teresa.  They are proud of their five grandchildren and one great granddaughter.

Marv is the president of the Keep Creighton Beautiful group, a past member of the Creighton Volunteer Fire Department for 18 years, and also drove for the Creighton Ambulance Service for 15 years.  Marv enjoys his gardening and fishing in his spare time.  He and Barb are active members of Zion Lutheran Church.  Marvin started working for Brockhaus Funeral Homes in 2008 and is very proud to serve the communities through them.
